The Future of GISP – Katharine Bennett, GISP, GISer in Transition
/ The GIS Certification Institute has listened to GIS professionals since its inception and is now ready to create a more rigorous process for obtaining certification as a GIS Professional. The Certification Committee spent a great deal of effort developing a set of 4 proposals for consideration by the GISCI Board of Directors. On February 1st, the Board of Directors released this document for public review and comment with the eventual goal of creating a revised process for achieving professional certification that will, in all likelihood, include and competency exam for the first time. This presentation will briefly review the history of the GISP and lay out what appears to be the future of this certification as the result of the Certification Committee’s efforts, public comments and the board’s deliberations.
