Anyone who has been around the GIS industry long enough has certainly spent a fair amount of time on ESRI’s support forums, either asking questions, posting answers, or reseaching problems. The forums are great if your questions are ESRI-specific, but what if you have questions about other types of software, data availability, or questions on GIS in general? Now there’s a place for you to go – gis.stackexchange.com
So what is gis.stackexchange.com? From the FAQ and About pages, it is a community driven Q&A for cartographers, geographers and GIS professionals, where you can ask practical, answerable questions based on actual problems that you face.
Browsing the site you will find questions ranging from basic to advanced, from data availability and projections to programming and development. It’s also free to use – you don’t need an account to ask questions or post answers. If you do choose to have an account, all you need is an existing OpenID account (such as gmail or Yahoo) and you’re all set.
So take some time to check it out, answer some questions, and help grow the community!
