ESRI recently enhanced the ArcGIS Online map service!

The World Street Map contains improved cartography and building footprints. It was updated with 2009 data from Tele Atlas and Automotive Navigation Data. Several country street maps were added including; Columbia, Hong Kong, Japan, and Thailand.
The World Topographic Map was compiled from public domain, user-contributed, and commercial datasets from the U.S. Geological Survey. DeLorme, etc. Coverage for the world scale is down to 1:150,000 and the United States scale is down to 1:20,000. It also includes detailed maps for select U.S. cities.
Drew “Cheesing” Griswold graduated from Tennessee Tech in 2007 with a degree in GeoScience and a concentration in Geology. In May of 2008, the new Griswold “family” was officially born when Drew and his college girlfriend,Katie, tied the knot (We expect their first child, Clark, to do wonderful things). Drew started his GIS career working as an intern in 2007 and was hired full time in January of 2008. As any talented musician would, Drew finds music in everything around him. And unfortunately for us, his office chair is squeakier than Megan Mullally from Will and Grace. However, we will get to see the man behind the squeaky chair with his band, Ten Shades, at their CD release party at First and Cedar in Cookeville on February 6th. When he finds time, Drew sails Old Hickory Lake in his boat while replaying last nights episode of Family Guy, listening to music from the 60s and 70s, and refining his outrageously funny impressions. He single handedly multitasks.
Because of his expertise, Drew assists Cliff with GIS/GPS support calls. If you have a question, he probably has the answer…and if you hit the right note, he might even sing it to you!.. Hey, it’s better than his squeaky chair!
Geocaching is an entertaining, high-tech treasure hunt for GPS users. The basic idea is to have individuals and organizations set up caches all over the world. After the hunt, they share their adventure stories over the internet. GPS users can use location coordinates to find caches through several different devices. Our favorite, of course, is through the wonderful precision of a Trimble handheld. However, Groundspeak recently created an iPhone application that uses cell towers and Wi-Fi positioning to determine the Geocaches near your location.
The new operating system is here! Windows Mobile 6.1 Operating System is available on the GeoExplorer 2008 handhelds. The new features of the Windows Mobile 6.1 Operating System include:
- Improved memory management which enables more memory to be available for use by applications.
- Explorer browser enhancements in site rendering quality improvements, customization, and viewing usability.
- Supports the Microsoft Office 2007 file format through the Microsoft office Mobile Program and includes improvements in Excel, Powerpoint, and OneNote.
The process of upgrading the Windows Mobile 6.1 Operating System requires a full reprogramming of the flash memory on the GeoExplorer 2008 handheld. All data and application programs will be erased, and must be reinstalled after the operating system has been upgrading. So make sure you back up any files that you will need before you start the upgrade process.
See the full release notes here.

The highly anticipated ArcGIS 9.4 was renamed to ArcGIS 10. Listen to a podcast of ESRI President Jack Dangermond explain why.
