Kentucky HS Student wins regional Google contest

Google has been soliciting artwork for its homepage through its Doodle 4 Google competition. The competition ended with winners selected from among 16,000 entrants from across the US. Lynn Camp High School senior Cherry Rose was selected as 1st place regional winner, among a six state region, and the best among Kentucky High School students for her design of the Google logo, called Lend A Hand.

Her theme is “What if you needed a helping hand? There are people all over the world who could use your help. They are injured, starving, suffering, and sick. What if we took action? Imagine yourself in their situation. Wouldn’t you want a helping hand? What if we all lent a hand?”

As a Regional Winner, Cherry is invited, along with a parent, to attend the Regional Winner’s celebration at the Googleplex near Stanford University in Mountain View, CA on May 21, 2008. The celebration will be a fun day of activities where Google will announce the four National Finalists and the National Winner whose design will be displayed on Google’s homepage.

Congratulations, Cherry.
